My friends and I used to be very big drinkers when I was growing up in the big city. We would go out three or four nights a week going to the clubs that had the drink specials and easily spend $100 each night on two dollar beers and five dollar spirits. The government legislation has now banned the selling of cheap drinks in night clubs to slow the binge drinking culture but unfortunately this was too late for me. I have what is known as acute pancreatitus which is inflammation of the pancreas. It has happened because of the excessive amounts of alcohol I used to drink and know days even a few drinks will cause it to get inflamed.
At first I thought I was suffering from stomach pains so I decided to go to the doctor to get myself checked out. She informed me that I had an inflamed pancreas which was not uncommon but does cause varying degrees of discomfort. The doctor informed me that I needed to give the pancreas time away from the alcohol and not to give it any more undue stress. I also had to reduce my food intake because pancreatitus is caused by the release of the enzymes that beak down the foods and eating was only going to release more. It was a tricky situation to be in but eventually the pain went away and I was able to get back to a normal routine of sleeping each night and eating proper meals. I do take it very easy with the alcohol now and only have wine on the weekends.
